Long e, please!

Happy Monday everyone!  This week we will be reading, writing, and spelling long e words.  Some of our spelling words look like this:

me-he-we

see-tree

feet-week

I created some powerpoints to help our firsties work with these words.  If you would like to use them to help your student review the words I have posted them below.  Click on the words underneath the picture.  You will have to download it.  I have a quick tutorial at the bottom of the post, just in case Powerpoint is new to you :)

Click here for introduction to words

Click here for missing word activity

Here is a quick tutorial:

1. When you click on the above links, it will take you to Google Docs.  This is where I uploaded them for you.  It will look like this:

2. You will want to download it. This way your child can use it as a Powerpoint with animations and sounds.  To download it, you just click on "file" and hit "download" (at the bottom)  It look like this:

3. Once you download, Powerpoint will come up.  It will look like this:

4. Just click on the "Slide Show" tab and click "From Beginning."  It looks like this:

Your child can now click through the Powerpoint and use it to help them study.

Hope you find them helpful.

iPads for all!

Yellow Monkeys and Blue Gibbons have been enjoying the use of the iPads for a few weeks.  Their stories are turning out great!  I can't wait to see all the finished products!  Our Green Chimps started exploring "Scribble Press" on the iPads yesterday!  The app looks like this.  It is a great writing tool!

Our Green Chimps spent yesterday practicing how to write and draw on the iPad app.  They learned how to get markers, erase, and use the keyboard.  They were so engaged and excited.  You could have heard a pin drop :)  Here are a few pictures to enjoy:

I look forward to sharing their stories with you soon!

Community Writing

On a Writing Note:

Our Green Chimps having been working very hard on their "5 Little_____" stories.  Mrs. Eshman and I split our class into two groups and created two different stories:
5 Little Dogs Chasing After People
and
5 Little Ghosts Having a Pillow Fight

The stories turned out really cute.  Check out our pictures!

On a Math Note:

Miss Kauffeld is an amazing math teacher!  Last week our firsties examined shapes.  Miss Kauffeld had the students comparing and contrasting shapes with a venn diagram.

The students came up with some great ideas!

Enjoy your week!

A HUGE Thanks!

Thank you for taking time away from your families to join us in conversations about your firsties during our two conference nights.  We really enjoyed learning more about your firstie and your families.

We have been hard at work and we wanted to post a few pictures of our firsties voting and working on our ipads in writing.  We have had a GREAT time using them to write an informational piece about community helpers.  We also use them for spelling practice and community writing.

Have a VERY, CURIOUS week!!!!!

A Day Full of Learning

Wow!  What a "boo"tiful Wednesday it was inside our building.  :)  Our firsties had SO.MUCH.FUN. making silly pumpkins after reading Pumpkin Heads! by Wendall Minor. Your little firsties LOVED this story!  It was FULL of different ideas about pumpkin faces.  Take a look at what a few of our firsties came up with.

We also went hunting in the dark with our glow sticks for math facts and words.  So EXCITING!

This was a GREAT day of learning that ended with your firstie "shopping" for his/her treats!  :)

Have a VERY CURIOUS weekend!

Falling for the Number 9

Busy week in our first grade world!  Our firsties have been working hard on combinations of 9.  Miss Kauffeld helped our Green Chimps create fall trees with two colored leaves.  They worked as a team to make their trees and write their combinations of 9.

We also read two of my favorite books this week: Bit By Bit and Joseph Had a Little Overcoat.

We compared these two stories and what a great job our firsties did!

Then our students made Zundel's vest.  They decorated it with pieces to make combinations of 9.

Our students worked hard this week!  Looking forward to more great weeks!
